About

Andrew Ghosh is a compassionate and diligent paralegal with the employment law firm of Phillips & Associates. If you were subject to discrimination, harassment, or retaliation, you deserve a legal team that is able to see your case from start to finish. Our experienced New York City employment lawyers and hardworking support staff may be able to help you. We represent clients on a contingency fee basis, meaning we will not get paid unless we recover damages on your behalf.

Mr. Ghosh is dedicated to the rights of workers. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at the Syracuse University in 2020.

Prior to joining Phillips & Associates, he worked for a firm in Brooklyn where he handled more than 300 cases, and tactfully managed the concerns of hundreds of clients who’d suffered workplace accidents. He handled both workers’ compensation and personal injury matters.

Before joining the legal industry, Mr. Ghosh worked in a range of New York jobs that give him insight into the issues that beset workers in many different industries. He served as a communications manager for a high tech entertainment venue and maintained its calendar. He interned for Senator Charles E. Schumer. On the job, he managed professional relationships with constituents, as well as public officials, such as local representatives, mayors, and sheriffs. He assisted attorneys in preparing legal documents for filing and/or service and performed data entry in connection with New York political affairs such as the status of elected officials, polling data, and other electoral data. He assisted with press conferences and wrote weekly memos setting forth issues pertinent to Central and Upstate New York.

Federal, State, and Local Laws Protect You

In New York City workplaces, you have strong protections against workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under federal laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the New York State Human Rights Law, and the New York City Human Rights Law. The latter two laws are strongly protective of workers’ rights to be engaged in employment free from adverse treatment based on certain characteristics such as race, color, national origin, religion, and sex, as well as a host of other characteristics not protected under federal laws.

Discrimination occurs whenever an adverse employment action is taken against an employee due to his or her membership in a protected class. For example, you were discriminated against if you were passed over for a promotion because you are Black. Sometimes multiple protected characteristics are implicated by an employer’s decision. A seasoned attorney can sort through the evidence and pursue the claims that are appropriate to recover the greatest amount of damages to which you’re entitled. For example, if you were denied a job because you are Middle Eastern and the company believes this doesn’t fit its image, you may have a claim for national origin, religious, and racial discrimination, depending on what the evidence is gathered by our lawyers and legal support staff.

Damages vary from case to case. In most cases, they are monetary and compensatory damages; this means that they are meant to make up for losses suffered in the past, present, and future, such as income loss, emotional distress, and out-of-pocket costs. In rare instances of egregious misconduct, punitive damages may be available.
